The Furniture Connection matches donations of lovingly used furniture with families who have a need of these items. Calls are received on the church phone (884-8632x151) for both donations and to report persons in need. Each Saturday morning a team of volunteers makes pick-ups and deliveries of furniture and household goods, thus meeting the needs of both donors and recipients. Many of our recipients are beginning their lives all over again following broken relationships, job loss,or other serious life changing circumstances. They need beds, bedding, dressers & chests, dinettes & chairs, sofas, chairs, lamps, crips, baby items, dishes, flatware and small appliances. We do not accept large appliances, badly soiled or torn upholstery, TVs, sewing machines or clothing.

If you can hold a hammer, tape measure, wrench and sip coffee then we’ve got a job for you! Many local families have need for "handy men" to do simple chores. The commitment is small but the rewards are huge. Bring your "helping hands" on Saturday morning every other month to help those in need of your skills.

Volunteers are needed who love gardening, or are willing to learn, to plant, care for and maintain the gardens on a continual basis. Volunteers are needed to deliver the produce to shelters around the State. Volunteers are also needed to put up fencing, repair machinery, etc. Please call church for details.

"Louie's Place" After School Program

Mondays - Fridays from 2pm to 5:30pm. September to June, following the Providence Public School calendar. When public schools are closed, except for legal holidays, the program is open from 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Children get help with their homework, learn interpersonal nonviolent problem-solving skills, and learn leadership skills. They get nutritious afternoon snacks, and breakfast and lunch on non-school days. In addition, children get a choice of enrichment activities each day, such as using computers, doing arts and crafts, participating in a cooking class, working on a dance routine, playing a board game, walking in the mileage club, playing jump rope or participating in a game of hockey or basketball or kickball. In summer, Louie's Place day camp runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Children get breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack. Activities include field trips to beaches, ball games, museums and other exciting places, computer games, indoor and outdoor crafts and games, gardening, swimming and much more.

Fridays from 9am - 12pm. Neighbors learn the basics of sewing beginning with making a pin cushion and a pencil holder. Using donated sewing machines, fabric and notions, they learn to make clothing for themselves or their children or even useful quilts. At noon, participants gather to share pizza in the kitchen.
